Guided Breathing — Audio Session
This brief, voice guided breathing session helps you settle into a slower, steadier breathing rhythm. In a few minutes, you’ll shift from the body’s stress mode (sympathetic) toward rest-and-recover (parasympathetic). This guided breathing exercise is ideal for work breaks, between classes, before bed, or anytime you want a calm reset.
What to Expect
- Grounding intro to settle posture and attention
- Clear inhale/exhale timing with simple voice cues
- Progressive slowing to encourage longer, quieter exhales
- Gentle close-out to help you transition back to your day
Benefits You May Notice From Guided Breathing
- Heightened sense of awareness while also feeling overall calmness
- Reduced muscle tension and racing thoughts
- Improved focus before tasks, study, or sleep
- More consistent rhythm for a repeatable calm-down routine
How to Use
Try to be present in a quiet and calm area in order to experience the full benefit of this exercise. Sit comfortably with both feet on the floor if possible. Press Play and follow the pace. Breathe through your nose when you can, keep exhales slow and quiet, and let your shoulders stay heavy. If you feel lightheaded, pause the audio and breathe normally until settled.
Choose Your Pace (Optional)
- Box 4-4-4-4: steady focus and composure
- 4-7-8: relaxation and sleep readiness
- Coherent 6-6: balanced, even rhythm for daytime calm
- Calm Exhale 4-8: longer exhales to down-shift stress
Quick Tips
- Keep breaths comfortable—no strain or breath-holding beyond your capacity
- Let your belly and ribs expand on the inhale; soften on the exhale
- Try 2–5 minutes at first; add time as it feels good
- Repeat daily to build a reliable, go-to regulation skill
Accessibility: A no-audio visual version is available on the Resources page.
Health note: If you have a respiratory or cardiac condition, are pregnant, or feel dizzy, use a gentler pace or consult a clinician.
